Tagoro Volcano International Online Scientific Conference

10th Anniversary of El Hierro submarine eruption
(Canary Islands, Spain)
October 12, 2021

The Tagoro Volcano International Online Scientific Conference is planned to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2011-2012 El Hierro submarine eruption (Canary Islands, Spain). On October 12, 2011, seawater discoloration was the clearest observation of the onset of this submarine eruption due to the interaction between a strong plume of acidic volcanic gases with alkaline seawater. At the time, this episode presented challenges from both civil response and research perspectives.

The conference is focused upon submarine volcanic environment and eruptions, and includes a number of invited talks centred upon the El Hierro eruption. The conference is an opportunity to exchange and share knowledge about how to detect, study, and assess hazards from submarine volcanic activity, which owing to their nature and our ability to observe them dynamically, is one of the least understood aspects of the volcanologic phenomena. All the talks will be broadcast by streaming through Facebook Live.
